"The powerful tend to fall"

I've heard that said many times, its a phrase that scares me. It makes me worry about myself. Makes me fear the future for Pogue, Tyler, Reid, and I. See we were born with powers that date back to around the Salem witch trials. Now to most this sounds great right? You can do whatever you want? No rules apply to you. When you turn eighteen the power strengthens, you ascend, and become more powerful. Yet again I bet you think "Cool!" or something. See what you don't know is there is the opposite to the ascension, the descent. If you abuse your powers it slowly kills your body, you age prematurely, and you will die. What people think is so amazing is seductive, it tries drawing you in, it's like your body fighting against itself. For me it's harder, a lost son of Ipswitch came to claim my power. To save me, my father willed me his powers, in doing so he died. So now I have twice the power, and twice the worry, twice the fight.

That's what scares me, raising up, only to fall.

What is your greatest fear?

My greatest fear is not being able to resist the seduction of my powers. To overusing them and becoming a ghost of a man like my father had. Not that i have ascended and my father sacrificed himself and willed his powers to me. I fear failing my mother, and my friends. I fear not being able to control myself, and not being there to help Pogue, Reid, and Tyler. What we have is hard to control, it can overtake us, seduce us into wanting to use more.

The ramifications of doing so are catastrophic. They want to seduce but they can destroy. To use too much, to fall under its spell is to age faster then normal. Everyone thought my father had been dead already, but he was alive. Sarah saw him. He was forty four yet looked like a man in his eighties. That is the risk of losing control over our powers. The sons of Ipswitch, powerful yet fearful.

I worry about my friends, my brothers. They are the only ones that understand what it's like to live with the fear. I am the oldest and I feel responsible to look over them as well, even though we aren't so far apart.
